About programme:

Koutník Academy under the supervision of doc. Tomáš Koutník, is organizing an extraordinary conducting masterclass, which will welcome selected talented students from all over Europe, South Korea and Argentina, who will perform in two concert programmes. The International Masterclass will take place from 9-14 September 2024 in collaboration with the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra Mariánské Lázně. Each participant will prepare with the orchestra selected works from the works of W. A. Mozart, L. van Beethoven, F. Schubert, J. V. H. Voříšek and J. Klusák. All this under the direction of doc. Tomáš Koutník, a renowned Czech conductor who has been educating young conducting talents since 1995. He draws his experience from his extensive concert activity and from his long-standing work as head of the conducting department at the Music Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. The Masterclass focuses on deepening conducting skills and preparing students for a professional artistic career.

The eminent Czech conductor Tomáš Koutník is one of the most sought-after pedagogical personalities in Europe. He began his career at the Czech Philharmonic as assistant to conductor Václav Neumann. Thanks to his extraordinary abilities, he has become one of the most important
Czech conductors. In addition to his rich artistic activity in the Czech Republic, he is also invited to collaborate internationally. The list of his successful career includes guest appearances in many countries around the world. As a highly regarded conducting personality, he now focuses on developing the most talented young Czech and international conductors.

He completed his conducting studies in class V. Neumann and A. Klíma. Shortly afterwards he won the most prestigious conducting competition in Europe, The International Besançon Competition. This success launched his career. He has served as chief conductor in many Czech orchestras. Tomáš Koutník’s speech is very musical and noble. His concerts enjoy a high artistic level as well as an enthusiastic audience response. Players appreciate his meticulous work, seamless handling and ability to express his demands precisely.

He has made more than 70 recordings for Czech and foreign radio stations and music labels. Koutník’s most important work is a complete set of symphonies by F. Schubert. Tomáš Koutník is a direct successor of the important Czech conducting school (Bělohlávek, Neumann, Ančerl, Talich). He offers the best pedagogical care to his students. Moreover, his extensive knowledge of the repertoire allows him to work with students on compositions that are beyond the scope of the curriculum. In addition to these activities, he is engaged in extensive pedagogical activities within the framework of Czech and foreign masterclasses.
